The Importance of Wellbeing in the Workplace & How We Support It
If there’s one thing the last three years have showed us, it’s the importance of mental health and the significance of a workplace’s role in supporting the wellbeing of its employees.
At Media Plus, we know it’s our people that makes our clients, and our agency, succeed. Therefore, it’s a natural step for us to provide flexible and supportive practices that promote a happy and healthy culture for everyone.
Read on to learn why supporting our team’s wellbeing is so important, and how we’re doing it.
Why is wellbeing so important in the workplace?
Wellbeing in the workplace brings a range of benefits to employees, both at work and outside of it. A work-life balance lowers stress and allows more time for the good things in life – time with family and friends, pursuing hobbies and simple downtime. As a result of increased job satisfaction, team members’ morale is boosted, their performance is enhanced, and any healthy habits developed from work-driven initiatives can have a long-term impact on their wellness.
On the flip side, employers benefit too. Numerous studies show that happier workers are more productive, such as this Oxford study that found a 13% increase in productivity. A positive work culture also reduces absenteeism and staff turnover, saving employers money in the long run.
It really is a win-win for everyone.
How we are supporting our team’s wellbeing
We’ve implemented a number of initiatives at Media Plus to support work-life balance and wellbeing, from two work-from-home days a week to days off for birthdays and anniversaries. A 5pm finish for in-office days ensures our team can have more time in their week to exercise or spend time with loved ones, especially important for parents with young families (or simply getting home earlier during Melbourne’s dark winter months!).
The team gets a workout at weekly Pilates classes
To support health and wellness in the office, we offer Pilates classes once a week to strengthen and stretch the body and calm the mind, and standing desks to improve long-term health, reduce joint pain and boost energy.
